The 2022 Land Rover Defender is a force to be reckoned with in any configuration, but you’ll still have to make a decision between the two-door Defender 90 and the four-door Defender 110. The two models offer identical engine options and nearly-identical feature suites, but they differ in terms of their dimensions, seating capacities, and off-road geometry. So, should you buy a Defender 90 or 110? Our 2022 Defender 90 vs. 110 matchup covers everything you need to know.

Defender 90 vs. 110: Dimensions & Seating Capacity

As you might expect, the Land Rover Defender 110 is capable of seating more passengers than the Land Rover Defender 90. Both, however, are offered in several configurations:

  • Defender 90 Seating Capacity: 5 (standard) or 6 (with optional first-row jump seat)
  • Defender 110 Seating Capacity: 5 (standard), 6 (with optional first-row jump seat), or seven (with an optional third row)

If you’d like the ability to bring larger groups out on the trails near Edgewater and Crofton, the Defender 110 may be a better choice! Compared to the Defender 90, the four-door model also offers more cargo space:

  • Defender 90 Cargo Space: 15.6 cubic feet behind the 2nd row, 58.3 cubic feet behind the 1st row
  • Defender 110 Cargo Space: 34.0 cubic feet behind the 2nd row, 78.8 cubic feet behind the 1st row

These dimensions reflect the five-passenger configurations of both models. If you opt for a Defender 110 with seven seats, your capacities will be slightly reduced; however, you’ll still have more space than the driver of a Defender 90. Check out our guide to the Defender interior to learn more.

Defender 90 vs. 110: Off-Road Geometry

Serious off-roaders know that the details can make or break an SUV on the trails. Both models are available with coil suspension or air suspension, but the bottom line is that the Defender 90 has a slightly more impressive ramp breakover angle. In most other cases, the two SUVs are very similar.

Defender 90: Off-Road Geometry

  • Ground Clearance: 8.9 inches (coil suspension), 8.5 – 11.4 inches (air suspension)
  • Approach Angle: 31 degrees (coil suspension), 30.1 – 37.5 degrees (air suspension)
  • Departure Angle: 37.9 degrees (coil suspension), 37.6 – 40 degrees (air suspension)
  • Ramp Angle: 25 degrees (coil suspension), 24.2 – 31 degrees (air suspension)
  • Wading Depth: 33.4 inches (coil suspension), 35.4 inches (air suspension)

Defender 110: Off-Road Geometry

  • Ground Clearance: 8.9 inches (coil suspension), 8.6 – 11.4 inches (air suspension)
  • Approach Angle: 31.5 degrees (coil suspension), 30.1 – 37.5 degrees (air suspension)
  • Departure Angle: 37.8 degrees (coil suspension), 37.7 – 40 degrees (air suspension)
  • Ramp Angle: 23 degrees (coil suspension), 22 – 27.8 degrees (air suspension)
  • Wading Depth: 33.4 inches (coil suspension), 35.4 inches (air suspension)

Both models are impressive, but since the Land Rover Defender 90 is shorter from end to end, it remains a little bit more nimble on difficult trails.
